Generations of Tennengau cheese producers have supplied the region with a full range of cheeses, from fresh to fully matured, primarily made from top-quality organic milk from hay-fed cows.

Pay a visit, perhaps on a bike ride, to one of the nearby Tennengau cheese dairies: Handkäserei Wimmer at the Winklhof in Oberalm, Dorfkäserei Pötzelsberger in Adnet, Hofkäserei Schmiedbauer in Bad Vigaun, Bio-Hofkäserei Fürstenhof in Kuchl or GenussBauernhof Zur Sonnleit´n in Abtenau. Culinary tip: After a guided tour of the Fürstenhof, you will even have the opportunity to "Make your own cheese"!

Tennengau Mountain Lamb

Lovers of good lamb appreciate the mild-though-full aroma and tender meat of Tennengau mountain lamb. During special Lamb Weeks before Easter and various other culinary weeks, extraordinarily palatable lamb is featured on the menus of local inns.

The animals live in very natural conditions at the Schlenggenhof in Scheffau. Grill tip: Pick up sausages stuffed with a mix of local lamb & cheese and be sure to attend the annual Tennengau Cheese Festival!
